Beer bellies are heart health risks

Scottish research by the International Chair on Cardiometabolic Risk and the National Obesity Forum show that beer bellies and muffin tops lead to heart problems but 50% of adults don’t realise it.   20% drank five or more sugary drinks a day which added an extra 1,500 calories.  33% said they would not cut down on sweetened drinks to lose weight.    What more will it take for adults to know that waists should be no bigger than 93cm (37in) for men and 80cm (32in) for women?  Children’s fatness, however, should not be assessed on waist measurement alone: their body mass index [BMI] should be calculated and referenced on a BMI growth chart.
