Debbie Cook

Debbie Cook trained at University College Hospital and moved on to become a Sister at the small cottage hospital, The Jubilee in Woodford Green. Later after having 2 boys she became a practice nurse at the medical practice associated with the hospital and, with one of the partners, developed a patient focused diabetes service serving the local population. Concentrating on diabetes and obesity, Debbie continued to focus on local community issues and then continued her studies by completing her Nurse Practitioner degree at the Royal College of Nursing in 2000, followed by a post graduate diploma in education.

An opportunity to publish a book with a local travel writer helped Debbie to broaden her skills and she now has 2 cookery and health books published. Debbie has since became Clinical Nurse Manager at her practice and continues to develop her skills in obesity and diabetes management through teaching, lecturing and engaging in local health care initiatives with the local PCT.

Involving herself in local issues, Debbie became a lead in her local practice based commissioning consortia in 2005 and in 2008 became Chair of the West Cluster at Redbridge PCT where she continues to highlight the twin public health issues of Obesity and diabetes.
