Research participation - Obesity discrimination in the workplace

Research request!

Would you be willing to talk about your weight and work? Have you previously experienced or are you currently experiencing obesity stigma/discrimination in the workplace?

We would love you to share your views and experiences at work and are interested in interviewing a range of people who work in a variety of roles and sectors.

Obesity discrimination at work is shown in a range of ways and research suggests that it is present at almost every stage of the employment cycle. Despite this, research exploring how obesity discrimination is experienced in the workplace is lacking. We are currently conducting a three-phase UK based research programme to address this gap.

If you would be willing to participate in this research, anonymously, by taking part in a 30-45 minute telephone interview in May please contact me on the email address below. Individual responses will be anonymous and confidential.

To participate you need to:

  • Currently be employed in the UK
  • Have a Body Mass Index of 30 or more (to calculate take your weight in kilograms and divide it by the square of your height in metres – or use an online calculator

Morbid obesity casting call

We are developing a television series looking at the increasing number of “super” morbidly obese (BMI 70+) people in Britain who are physically or psychologically unable to leave their homes due to their weight. We want to provide expert help, which can include the cost of surgery.

Perhaps you want to leave the house but feel there is no practical way, and can’t see how you might ever return to a healthy weight.

You might be stuck in the house and have been refused surgery or be on the waiting list but don’t know when the chance will come.

Perhaps you refuse to leave the house for psychological reasons and need the courage to go outside again.

We’d like to hear from you.

We are also interested in hearing from parents of teenagers suffering from this condition, or carers/families/partners who are struggling to look after someone with the condition.

Survey - Infant feeding to prevent childhood obesity study

What, when and how parents feed their infants can have an impact on children’s risk of being overweight or obese. Currently, different studies looking at programs or interventions to prevent childhood obesity often measure different outcomes. This makes it difficult to compare how effective these interventions or programs are.

The aim of this study is to develop a Core Outcome Set (COS) of infant feeding outcomes for assessing interventions including children up to 1 year old. This will help to improve efforts to prevent childhood obesity. An infant feeding COS is an agreed and standardised set of outcomes that are relevant to health professionals, parents and researchers. Healthcare professionals can provide essential expert information about infant feeding and your contribution to developing this COS is invaluable.

We are asking you to participate in this study by completing the survey in the link below. The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete. You will be asked to complete this survey 3 times in total. You will be emailed reminders to complete Round 2 at the beginning of December, and Round 3 at the end of January. This helps us achieve agreement on what outcomes are most important.

If you are interested in taking part please go to the COS IF survey here.
