THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED

This seminar will consider the next steps for increasing participation in sport amongst children and improving the quality of Physical Education in schools, in light of the Government's announcement of funding for schools to improve sports facilities and promote healthy lifestyles.

Following the publication of the Childhood Obesity Strategy in August 2016 and ahead of the implementation of the Soft Drinks Industry Levy in April 2018, delegates will discuss how schools can take a whole-school approach to encouraging healthy lifestyles for their pupils. Those in attendance will also consider the initial impact of the implementation and inspection of the healthy schools rating and the doubling of the Primary PE and Sport Premium in September 2017, as well as Ofsted's inspection of the new measures.

Further sessions will examine how the provision of PE in schools can be improved, in light of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fit and Healthy Childhood’s report into the topic which recommended that the Government review the PE curriculum and establish a national PE Taskforce to gather examples of best practice. Attendees will also discuss how schools can increase engagement in sport amongst underrepresented groups and improve PE provision for disabled children.
